DIGITAL GESTURE

2020

Susan Buttner, Spatial, Temporal Gesture, 2020, HD Film 03.02 min, with sound.

Developed through performance, sound, and digital documentation, the work explores gesture as a shifting relation between movement, pause, repetition, and spatial encounter. Actions unfold through partial movements, suspended gestures, and moments of hesitation, where bodily expression remains unresolved rather than fully articulated.

Digital recording operates not as documentation alone, but as an active condition shaping rhythm, distance, and proximity between bodies and screens. Motion and stillness remain in continual negotiation, allowing gesture to emerge as a temporary structure held between presence and interruption.

Across the work, sound, image, and performance accumulate through fragmented sequences and repeated actions. Meaning unfolds through duration, delay, and bodily rhythm rather than fixed narrative or direct communication.
