TEXT/ Detached Exhibition
Live Performance ‘the body in movement, a response to architecture’, formed part of sculptural installation by Buttner, part of group exhibition at Solstice Arts Centre curated by Niamh McCann
Located on the stairwells within the arts centre, normally a space of transition, the performers worked together to negotiate the structures of the building. The choreography goes from wall to wall and to open gaps, the body adapts and seeks support from the viewers, hands are held up and out. The viewer's hands become embroiled in the art process, as they aid the performers working their way around the stairwells and the open corridors. The very movement of the body is articulated, physically becomes fragile, there is a vulnerability at play as the space shifts from institutional to social.
